Colton’s Monster

I’ve been waiting a while to feature a car like this, and when I came across it on Z31 Performance I had to do it!

This ’71 Datsun 510 isn’t your usual, with a power-to-weight to make supercars cry.

When I spoke to the owner Colton Ray from Minnesota, I was very impressed with the car’s spec and the amount of work he had put into creating this monster. The car is powered by the mighty VG30ET powerhouse, it’s the same engine which is used in my Z31 Turbo. The modifications don’t just end there, the 3.0 litre V6 Turbo engine is coupled with a 5-Speed gearbox fitted with a 6 puck clutch and a LSD 3.7 R160 to make sure the car can apply the power effectively.

The car is also packed with other goodies, Colton made sure that he doesn’t lack too much in handling side of things with coilovers up front and modified 280z rear struts. Brakes wise he went for the Toyota 4 pot front calipers and Wilwood rears which can be seen behind the  Drag DR20 wheels wrapped in semi-slick track use Nitto NT01 tyres similar to the Toyo R888′s widely popular here in UK.

The interior matches the style of the car perfectly with aluminium dash, gauges, Corbeau GTS seats and a 5 point rollcage.

Colton didnt stop there, did I mention it’s running Nitrous as well?  it is also has Tec3 and Steward Warner electronics.

Naturally Aspirated the car made 130 whp and 170 wtq
Naturally Aspirated with Nitrous the car made 220 whp and 315 wtq
Turbocharged the car makes (currently) 340 whp and 380 wtq

Colton hasn’t managed to test the car using Nitrous with turbo, but I’m sure the figures will scare him and anyone he’s competing against.

Colton was inspired by his father who got him interested in Datsun 510′s, I can confidently say that his father must be proud of what he has created. The project hasn’t just stopped here, Colton will continue his hard work on this amazing car and I will definitely keep a close eye on this project.
